CliC Data Management and Information Panel (DMIP)

Terms of Reference

The CliC Data Management and Information Panel (DMIP) maintains expert knowledge on cryospheric and climate data, on data management and information systems, and on user requirements for cryospheric data. Its members, including the Chair, are appointed by the CliC SSG. Once in place, the Chair is responsible for recommending changes in DMIP membership to the SSG. Both the Chair and members will generally be appointed for an initial period of four years, and extensions may be recommended for two years at a time. However, the SSG or DMIP Chair may recommend a shorter term, depending on the needs of the panel at the time.

In collaboration with the CliC International Project Office and through a continuously developing programme agreed with the CliC SSG, the DMIP?s tasks are:

  1. To advise and inform the CliC SSG of relevant ongoing data and information management issues.
  2. To provide data management and information advice as well as guidance and coordination to investigators, collaborating data centres, projects and programmes.
  3. To advise on and develop a consistent policy for the identification and dissemination of relevant data and information for CliC.
  4. To prepare data and information management plans for CliC; and to review and update them as required.
  5. Guide the ongoing design and development of the Data and Information System for CliC (DISC) in collaboration with the CIPO.
  6. To undertake activities to provide metadata, documentation, and source information for data sets of interest for CliC, to organize data rescue activities (as appropriate and when possible), and to encourage the exchange of data and information via DISC.
  7. To liaise with the Global Precipitation Data Centre, Global Runoff Data Centre, and other data centres on data issues relevant to CliC activities.
  8. To promote the free and unrestricted dissemination of CliC data for non-commercial purposes.
  9. To contribute to, review and update appropriate sections of CliC plans and documents as needed.
  10. To identify appropriate activities needed to achieve CliC goals and objectives and, where necessary, to recommend the establishment of rapporteurs or working groups to execute these activities.
  11. To liaise with the CliC SSG and other CliC panels using the resources of the CliC International Project Office.
